Is it bad to be so fickle. Switching back and forth from browser to browser. I can’t make a decision on which blogging systemI like the best. One day I like one program, and the next I am back to something else.
Today, I am back to FireFox as my default browser. I love Opera, but Drag’nDrop and the ability to save form data were sorely missed while browsing. So, I imported my Opera bookmarks, and started my love affair with FireFox all over again. I found a nice clean theme (Archaic 0.2.1) and organized my workspace perfectly.
[note: The big reason I originally switched to Opera was because the Publish page for Expression Engine was displaying with a huge horizontal scroll in FireFox. Thanks to Farron, I altered the css file, and it now displays perfectly.]
Tomorrow, who knows which browser I will be using! Fickle fickle fickle!
Uh oh… time to change back! Opera does do drag-n-drop, it just doesn’t come configured to do it by default. “-)
One of the myriad things I like about Opera (and FF too, as much as FF disgusts me overall) is the ability to control how things work via the good ol’ ini file (prefs in FF). I’ve hacked mine up good!
Just wanted to toss a wrench into the works. “-)
Comment by Becky on November 6th, 2004That is bizarre, because I searched through the forum topics, and found complaints that Opera didn’t do Drag-n-Drop. oh well, I will check it out.
Comment by debbieT on November 6th, 2004Well, I changed the ini file, actually I had to physically type that extra line of code into the file. But no luck, drag-n-drop doesn’t work. I think I remember reading that the newest version of Opera doesn’t support it anymore. Aren’t you using the older version?? Anyway, thanks for trying.
Comment by debbieT on November 6th, 2004How are you dragging the address? You have to grab the dot on the left side of the address box and hold down your left mouse button. I drag things to my personal toolbar all the time… that’s a default apparently because I’ve never bothered to set up the info at the link I gave you.
Maybe try that first to see if it works for you.
Ok, I just tried it doing a bookmark… you have to have the Bookmark list open in the left panel, then you can also drag/drop directly to it. I dragged both the location of the page as well as a link on the page.
I already knew from past experience that grabbing/dragging an image opened it in a new tab. Did it by mistake a few times.
Rats, I might have to start working with that panel open… it used to be called the Hotlist, but I don’t know what it’s called now. I usually only open it when I need the History. Hmmm. “-)
Oh, and dT, I didn’t make any changes to my ini file; it says “7″ is the default which gives basic drag/drop functionality. I didn’t realize that.
Comment by Becky on November 6th, 2004Sorry… wish I could edit my comments. Forgot to say I am using the most recent (as of 2 weeks ago anyway) version of Opera: 7.54.
Comment by Becky on November 6th, 2004I don’t mean drag-n-drop for urls. I need drag-n-drop for text in text boxes, forms, etc. When I am blogging, I like to drag text around the text box. Opera doesn’t allow this.
Opera has very limited form features. I like auto-fill for form data and to select a bit of text and drag it to a new area. It won’t allow that. Oh well, no matter, I am happy with FF this week. LOL
Comment by debbieT on November 6th, 2004Actually they aren’t really that limited, you just have to set up the Auto fill info:

Text, yes… it’s not draggable. But once it’s highlighted have you ever looked at the functionality of the right click menu? It’s strong… search, copy to note, translate even. You could probably set up a shortcut key combination or a bookmarklet for something you use a lot.
Just some ideas. “-)
