Well, let me start by saying right away that I just started to photograph the moon, and I am by no means an expert on the subject. But I figured that since the moon was looking so cool lately, it might be fun to share what I learned about photographing the moon.
Here is my exif data for those that are interested:
I first started out last night shooting in Aperture priority, and I ended up with moon blobs of light. So, I went inside and googled “photograph the moon” and found this article: http://www.aidan.co.uk/article_tecmoon5622.htm
I learned that it’s best to change your camera to “manual” and use high shutter speeds. So, as you can see, the shutter speed in the above shot was 1/1600, that’s pretty fast for night shots. But because the moon is so bright, it needs to be quick!
I might try to go out again tonight or tomorrow (weather permitting) and experiment some more. It’s quite fascinating…
here is another article that looks very helpful: http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Photograph-the-Moon&id=1339678
wow - that’s awesome! If you want to get into this Chris Marquardt on Tips with the Top Floor did a show about shooting the moon:
