November 10, 2008 by debbie T | Digital PhotographyFlickr

There is a Flickr group for every day of the week….and the majority of them involve colors.

Here’s the list:

I am sure I missed a bunch, but these are the ones that I am aware of.

Even though today is almost over, I wanted to wish you all a Happy Scarlet Sunday!

Change Linksys Router Wireless Security to WPA2

November 9, 2008 by debbie T | Wireless

It appears that WPA (with TKIP) wireless security has been found to have a flaw.

After the dust settled and more information was shared, it was learned that the crack isn’t such a horrible risk, but that’s not to say that the flaw won’t escalate in the future. I changed my Linksys router wireless security settings to WPA2 and AES so I don’t have to worry about it.

EDIT (2008-11-22): The Security Now podcast has a show dedicated to this problem. It’s a very geeky episode, but very informative.

For more detailed information on configuring the security settings on a Linksys router, please view my older tutorial: http://splashofstyle.com/archives/2007/04/13/configuring-linksys-router/

Navigate to router’s IP address

In your browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc), click or type the link http://192.168.1.1/ to open your router’s set up interface. This particular address is for Linksys routers. If you have another brand, you will need to go to the manufacturer’s web site to find their URL or consult the user manual.

I should stress that, if possible, you should be connected to the router via wire (Ethernet cable). Yes, it’s possible to connect to the router using your wireless connection, but if something goes wrong, it’s likely that you will lose your wireless connection. Make sure you have an Ethernet cable ready and waiting just in case, because if you lose your wireless connection, you will not be able to get back into the router to fix the problem.

November 6, 2008 by debbie T | Aperture 2Art and GraphicsDigital PhotographyMac SoftwareiPhoto

Hopefully this version (check software update) will fix all the ongoing problems, such as importing in Aperture.

I will probably hold off for a day or two before installing. Just to get my backups in order. It looks like there could be further issues.

Massachusetts Votes to End Greyhound Dog Racing

November 5, 2008 by debbie T | Digital PhotographyFlickrRamblings

I am thrilled that my state will be phasing out greyhound dog racing by January 2010!

Here is a photo of my Rat Terrier, Mindy - she is happy too, even though you wouldn’t know it from her expression. She is a serious and thoughtful poser when I snap her! LOL

What is it about Food Service?

November 2, 2008 by debbie T | Ramblings

ugh. I just picked up a sandwich at the drive through at Dunkin Donuts. I placed my order, and was waiting at the window. While one girl was making my sandwich, another must have spilled a little bucket of water on the counter area near the drink dispensers.

She was scooping up the spilled water and dripping the cloth all over the lids stored right in front of the counter. While she was leaning over, her shirt was touching the lids as well.

I mentioned something to the other girl when she brought over my sandwich, and I don’t think she understood what I was trying to tell her; she kind of just shrugged.

Yeah, I know food service is not always clean, but I hate it when I “see” stuff like this. I would rather just have it happen in the background without actually witnessing it.

And yes, I am glad I don’t drink coffee!! Those coffee lids were unusable!

Adagio Teas on Twitter

October 30, 2008 by debbie T | InternetRamblings

ooh cool, my favorite online tea site is on twitter.

http://twitter.com/AdagioTeas

I love their teas, and it’s easy to order online. Since I live very close to them, I receive my order by the next day. Hmm, I am running low, I think I will place an order tonight.

Adagio Teas

If anyone would like a $5 gift certificate for a future Adagio Teas order, email me and I can get one out to you. You get $5 off, and I get 10 points toward my “frequent cups” rewards.

Oh and I love their IngenuiTEA tea pot. I have been using the 32 oz pot for about a year, and I adore it. It makes a nice big cup of hot tea or I throw some ice in a glass and it makes ice tea too.

Aperture 2 - Changing Image Date & Time

October 26, 2008 by debbie T | Aperture 2Art and GraphicsDigital PhotographyMac Software

UPDATED 2008-11-22:

So, you have a photo in Aperture 2, and you need the date (and/or time) adjusted. It’s actually pretty easy once you know where Aperture has hidden the option! See further below for info on changing multiple images.

From the Metadata Menu

Select the photo, choose Metadata>Adjust Date & Time from the menu.

Aperture 2 Projects Import and Export

October 24, 2008 by debbie T | Aperture 2Art and GraphicsDigital PhotographyMac Software

I tried a quick experiment tonight with Aperture 2. I wanted to see how Aperture’s project import and export worked and if photos would be duplicated if the same project was imported.

  1. First, I exported a small project from my Aperture 2 library.
  2. I launched a new test Aperture library and imported the project.
  3. I checked to make sure that it was imported into the Aperture library, and not referenced. All looked good.
  4. Back to my original library, I made some editing adjustments to one photo in the project, then exported the project as a new name.
  5. Launched my test library and imported the 2nd project. It imported as a brand new project, with no notations of duplicated data.
  6. I thought maybe it was due to the different project name, so I went back to my main library, and exported the project as the original name.
  7. In my test library, I imported the 3rd project, and it added it as a new project with (1) in the project name, again with no indication of duplicated files.

So, this means that if you like to work on projects on different computers, you will have to be careful with importing. I was sort of expecting (hoping) Aperture would “merge” the two projects together, updating any editing adjustments or meta data to all the files, instead of creating a new project all together.
